Helping Others Through Gateway Pet Guardians

The Gateway Pet Guardians not only rescue homeless dogs in East St. Louis, IL but they also help the residents who live there! The GPG Outreach Team delivers free dog houses, straw &#038; more to the residents who have dogs. There are no vet offices in East St. Louis so they also offer to take their dogs to get spayed and neutered. They are really making an impact in East St. Louis with the dogs and the residents.

The Gateway Pet Guardians not only rescue homeless dogs in East St. Louis but also help the residents who live there delivering free dog houses, straw and more to the residents who have dogs. 

Helping Others with a Food Pantry for Pets

It’s an organization created by two women who love animals. They knew food pantries for people existed when someone finds themselves in financial difficulties but what about their animals? They created the Bi-State Pet Food Pantry to fill the void. Their idea became a non-profit that now helps thousands of pets each year stay in their homes instead of being dropped off at shelters because their families can no longer afford them. Food pick up day is always filled with so much joy and so many amazing stories of how one idea has impacted so many!

Explore! Life as a Dog

For this episode of Explore! we focus on the lives of our canine friends and ask the big picture question, “How can we better understand our own senses by comparing them to how a dog experiences the world?&#8221; Students meet and interact with Radar, a four-year-old terrier mix and with Dr. Ed Migneco, veterinarian at Hillside Animal Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. They’ll discover fascinating facts about a dog’s five senses, and explore what it’s like to hear, see, smell, touch and taste the world from a dog’s point of view. We investigate x-ray machines and learn how they help a veterinarian diagnose a dog’s medical condition. And through it all, we compare what we learn about dogs to a human’s five senses and how we experience the world.
