Grades: 6 - 12

Video Description: Bruno David Gallery’s latest exhibition features the art of Leslie Laskey, Ryan Eckert, Andrea Stanislav, and Damon Freed. Laskey’s study in the Amaryllis flower across mediums forms the basis for his collection. Eckert’s paintings reflect his personal story of spiritual growth. Stanislav’s cinematic work addresses the fall of empires through layers of symbolic meaning. Freed uses bold colors and strong lines to explore structure.

Quick Ideas for Using the Video:

  • Mr. Laskey’s work seen in the video was inspired by the amaryllis plant. Consider a similar art exercise with students. Have them interpret a flower or other object in nature.
  • What connections do students see between the works displayed by the various artists? Are there any “through lines” they notice? Why do they think the curator put these artists together? If they were curating the exhibition, how would they describe the work that is seen?

*Tours take students to laboratories, studios, workspaces, museums and other diverse “in the field” and community locations related to the area of study.
