Using Presentation and Speech Activities

Giving students the opportunity to present their learning through presentation and speech activities can be an extremely effective way to inspire student interest in a subject, build on a student’s own interests and strengths to demonstrate their understanding and/or point of view on a subject, and develop students’ critical and creative thinking skills as they make choices about how best to explain what they have learned to others.

Since Educate.Today videos take students “inside the head” of an expert, “inside the location” where a topic or skill is being applied, and “inside the historic event” through first person recollections, students can use them to:

  • research a topic
  • make decisions about what to include and exclude from their presentation
  • determine the best way to explain and present what they’ve learned
  • benefit from the act of presentation in whatever form along with questions from their classmates and peer and teacher evaluation.

As a result, Educate.Today videos lend themselves to use in student presentations taking a variety of forms including PowerPoint presentations, speeches, videos, first person performances, and group panel discussions, to name just a few. And, with over half the collection available for download, students can incorporate excerpts from the videos in the presentation form they choose.
