Theatre 102: The Power of Story: Gitana Production’s “A New World”
The stories of refugee women who came to the U.S. to escape war and disasters overseas are told in a play by Gitana Productions. In a genre known as “verbatim theatre” playwright Patton Chiles gathered the stories of refugee women from Bosnia, the Republic of Congo and Afghanistan and crafted an original play. The powerful material brings alive the personal stories of what brings women and children asylum seekers to the U.S. and shows their determination to succeed and contribute to American society.
