Made Makerspace

Grades: 3 - 12

Video Description: You could call it a phoenix of sorts.  The MADE Makerspace is something new emerging from something that saw a very sudden end.  Co-founder Jim McKelvey says, “There are amazing things that happen in a makerspace.  People who want to create have access to tools that they would never otherwise be able to use.  So we have a bunch of laser cutters here that are fantastic.  We have a water jet that will cut through four inches of steel. We have shop bots and hand tools. We have embroidery machines and Cadcam software.”

Type of Video: Story*
Unique Video ID: STEM-18**

Quick Ideas for Using the Video:

  • If a makerspace is available in your school or community, see if it can be used for student projects.
  • Use the video as inspiration for a student created video showcasing a makerspace in your community and/or the projects students create in a makerspace. Publish the videos on the school district website or another public forum of your choice.

*Story videos employ a narrative form to highlight a topic, location, or practitioner in the area of study.
