Grades: 6 - 12

Type of Video: Profile*
Unique Video ID: AandA-JBrown**

Quick Ideas for Using the Video:

  • For Discussion: At the beginning of the video the artist says, “I like to evoke a quiet calmness, the stillness of nature, just a quietness.” As students look at the artwork how well do they believe the artist reaches his goal? How would students describe their art work? Is there an overall concept or theme they want the viewer to walk away with?
  • For Discussion: Have students respond to the art created by the artist. What influences or inspirations do they see in his work? What do they like about the colors, style, etc.? Would they be interested in creating artwork like this? Why or why not?
  • Activity Idea: Build off the first discussion question above and have students create artwork that evokes a “quiet calmness” to them.
