  • Before viewing the video ask the students “What causes and earthquake?” Allow students to give answers and discuss with a neighbor or group.
  • After viewing the video supply students or groups with a piece of thin wood as seen in the video. Allow students to bend the wood while discussing the forces at work and make predictions as to when the wood will break. How much pressure will they need to use?” Allow students to discuss the similarities between what happened with the wood and what happens in an earthquake.
