Quick Ideas for Using the Video:

  • Before viewing the video, read the book Savannah’s Savings Jar by Chelsea Addison and lead students in a discussion about how they currently save money or how they could set up a system to start saving.
  • Before viewing the video, lead students in a discussion about what it means to save money and how saving money can be beneficial as they grow into adults. Have students share a few things (toys, video games, pets, clothes, etc) they might want to save money for.
  • Before viewing the video, talk to students about the importance of learning to save money and ways they can get started with money saving at home. Students can also start a “Classroom Savings Jar” and brainstorm a list of items that could be bought for the classroom and create a goal for how much would need to be saved. Throughout the year they could bring in loose change and contribute to the savings jar.
