Quick Ideas for Using the Video:

  • Use the video as part of your students’ study of geography. Have students locate Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania on a map and calculate the distance from those countries to the United States. Have students follow up viewing the video by researching more about those countries and then sharing what they learned with the class.
  • The guest talks about the many years he and his family lived in a refugee camp. Have students share their thoughts about his experiences.
  • After viewing the video have students discuss and/or journal about the challenges faced by someone moving to America from another country. How do they think they could help someone from another country adjust to living in their town?
