Quick Ideas for Using the Video:

  • Before watching the entire videos, use the images of the C-5 cargo plane included at the beginning of the video and have students think like engineers and inspire student discussion about what they think the purpose of the plane may be, how large, how heavy, how easy to fly, etc. it might be. Then have them view the video listening for what they learn about those topics.
  • Prior to watching the video, have students think like engineers and let them know they need to design a plane that can transport military personnel and equipment for extended land and air missions. Have them brainstorm the type of equipment that would need to be moved and characteristics of the plane that would need to be designed and built. Then view the video to compare their ideas to the look, capacity, and operation of the Air Force C-5 cargo plane.
  • After viewing the video, have students discuss any insights they gained into a career in the military as an aviator. What are challenges and opportunities in the career? What interests them about such a career and what does not?

*Segment videos are short excerpts edited from interviews or interactive programs that offer flexible and differentiated ways to use the rich content included in the full-length conversation.
