Quick Ideas for Using our Archaeology and Geology Videos:

  • Use the videos in an archaeology or geology unit where students participate in an actual or simulated archaeological “dig” or search for fossils.
  • Contact a professional in the field to speak to your class in person or virtually and have students watch different videos to help them develop questions for the guest expert.
  • Use the videos with lesson plans you create that have students work with primary sources related to the subject such as artifacts found in a dig, rocks, fossils, seismographs, etc.
  • For videos with questions in their titles, give students the question before they watch the video and have them share what they think the answer might be. Then view the video to compare what they learned to what they thought they knew on the subject.
  • Provide the videos for students to view independently to satisfy their own curiosity/interest in the topic highlighted.
  • Use the videos as a conversation starter for a class discussion on a topic linked to your study.
  • Have students include insights gained through the videos as part of their projects, papers, and presentations on an archaeology-related subject by:
    • interpreting and/or summarizing what they saw and learned in the video.
    • citing quotations from the expert in the video.
