Touring My Green House

Take the tour of this home to learn about different ways to make your home more environmentally friendly. From composting to geothermal heat, this house has it all. This video was created by a high school student who submitted it, and it was approved for publication.

  • Research and then discuss the costs associated the aspects of green in this home. Do you feel that the cost benefit is worth it or not? Explain your reasoning, supporting your position with facts.
    Activity Ideas:

  • Before viewing the video go over the following vocabulary terms: compost, decay, nutrients, and geothermal heating. Have students define these terms prior to viewing the video and then afterwards they should check to see if their original definitions were correct.
  • Reach out to builders and owners of green homes in your community to see if a building tour or guest speaker is available for your class. Use the video to help students prepare questions for the session.
