Quick Ideas for Using the Video:

  • Mr. Gonzalez keeps inspiration folders to look at for ideas. Have students look through magazines to find and collect images or colors that inspire them and choose an image to use as inspiration for a drawing, painting, or other art work of their own..
  • Composition is how the artist places images on the canvas. The Rule of Thirds helps artists create art that is more pleasing to the human eye. Have students use rulers to divide their art paper into nine boxes of equal size, in three rows. They should place their subject matter at an intersection and add other elements building from there. After they are done, ask what they thought of using the Rule of Thirds. Do they see any examples of the Rule of Thirds being applied in Mr. Gonzalez’s work?
