Ted Cocos remembers using a drone and his friend’s kayak to film the flood waters overtaking his high school.
Teacher Resources for the Video:
Discussion Questions:
- Have students discuss the impact of seeing the flood damage from a kayak that Ted was paddling. Do they think their impression of the flood would have been different if they had only seen still images or aerial footage?
Activity Ideas:
- Have students research the incidents of flash floods in their area for the past 50 years and create a chart of the occurrences. Is the rate of floods happening increasing, decreasing or remaining the same? Has the damage occurred in a limited number of locations or a wide variety of locations? Do the locations have anything in common that might contribute to flooding?
